Five Reasons to Back Karl Peterjohn PDF Print E-mail

1. A Real Fiscal Conservative. Peterjohn led the campaign to keep Sedgwick County under the property tax lid in 1997. He successfully defeated the county commissioners, including the incumbent in this district, who voted to lift that lid.

Peterjohn helped collect thousands of signatures opposing the 2.5 mill Sedgwick County property tax hike in 2006 that the incumbent voted for.  Peterjohn has fought for fiscally conservative policies at the state, county, city, and school district level.  Peterjohn has worked to limit property tax increases caused by soaring tax appraisals.

2. Protect Your Home. Peterjohn opposes eminent domain abuse and wants to change Sedgwick County’s policy supporting urban renewal and eminent domain benefiting private parties. Peterjohn opposes the court’s Kelo decision that expands eminent domain abuse.

3. Supports Term Limits. Peterjohn backs term limits. Peterjohn will self limit to no more than three terms as county commissioner in district 3.

4. Supports Voter Empowerment. Peterjohn would require that all county property tax hikes receive vote approval. Peterjohn realizes that new government bond issues are like another mortgage on your home. Peterjohn wants to require voter approval for new bond issues too.

5. Peterjohn Fights for Taxpayers. Peterjohn has been an advocate for taxpayers at the Kansas statehouse and helped pass an eight mill reduction in property taxes in 1997. In 1998 he helped get the largest tax reduction in state history enacted that included another seven mill reduction.
